Creative Kimchi Playshop: 4/9

Creative Kimchi Playshop

Led by Andrea, this Creative Kimchi workshop will lead you to experiment with fermentation!

Kimchi is a traditional Korean ferment, a side dish famously eaten on everything. Traditional ingredients include napa cabbage, cucumber, radish, green onion, garlic & ginger.  We'll have a variety of vegetables, spices, & appliances available for you to play with to create your very own recipe: considering how flavor combinations and how texture influences the experience of your fermentation.

Michi is a baking goddess and mad kitchen scientist, frequently making people swoon with her chocolate truffles, cakes, cheese selections, ethnic foods and hot fire dancing. She works at an editing job that's generally unexciting during the day (at least until she sells her first best-selling book).

Urbanforage 10/10/10
with Nance Klehm

Edible Alchemy is very pleased to host Nance Klehm for the next in our Playshop series, featuring her famed Urbanforage. Starting here on the roof at Eco and exploring the neighborhood, Urbanforages are two hour informally guided walks through the spontaneous and cultivated vegetation of the urbanscape. Along the walk, we learn to identify plants, hear their botanical histories and stories of their use by animals and humans and share antidotes of specific experiences with these plants.

All Urbanforages start with an herbal beverage and end with a simple herbal food shared over discussion of the experiences and questions generated by the walk.

Bread Baking!

Picture
On Saturday, March 20, we will be holding a bread baking workshop at Eco, from 11am sharp until 5pm.

Led by Andrea, you will learn how to make yeasted whole wheat bread.  Variations of bread are possible- such as cinnamon, nut, multi-grain, berry, garlic and cheese, herbed...  as far as you can imagine!  We will be focusing on the technique of bread baking from start to finish, a process that can take up to 6 hours, as the kneaded dough must rise a few times before baking.

You will learn about the intricacies of yeast, why wheat is used to make bread, and cultural traditions in bread baking.

If you've ever wanted to learn to bake bread, now is your chance!  For $20, you will take 2 loaves of bread home, plus the knowledge of how to easily make bread in your home.  Bring friends, as each 2 loaves are only $20.
